Friends of the Homeless is the largest emergency shelter and homeless service agency for individuals in Western MA. We are a private, non-profit 501(C)3 organization established to provide emergency shelter for adult men and women. We also own and operate a day center and a dining room on Worthington Street in Springfield, as well as 107 permanent low income housing units. All FOH shelter and housing is supported by case management aimed at obtaining and maintaining permanent housing.  FOH is a community ally in an individual's struggle for independence.

In 1979, Hawthorn Services opened its doors to chronically mentally ill elders, providing community homes to many who had been lost in the back wards of the state hospital. Since then, we have been a community advocate for all elders. Under the umbrella of the "Hawthorn Tree" is a nurturing and caring community providing needed services to elders. They include congregate living residential housing, adult day health centers, depression support groups, bereavement groups, an outreach substance abuse program, and an elder suicide prevention training program.

HRU is a private, non-profit organization that connects individuals who are disadvantaged or disabled to their community. Through HRU, these individuals can participate in social opportunities, vocational training and practical skill-building. HRU also works in partnership with over 100 area employers to meet their business needs and create employment opportunities for its program members.
