In Our Life Together, Jean Vanier spoke to the power of shared lives when he wrote, “[It is] an encounter that liberates new energies, that allow us to break the chains of egotism and open ourselves in love to others.”
Everything we do at Nonotuck is centered around, and inspired by, Jean Vanier’s vision of “life sharing.” The vision has evolved for well over a half century. In his humanitarian philosophy on life and in practice through L’Arche communities, he conceived and introduced people to shared homes throughout Europe and North America. Life sharing occurs when two or more people choose to live together in a home based on mutuality of love and respect and on true equality.
To get to life sharing, Nonotuck has always had a core set of beliefs we put into practice here at Nonotuck Resource Associates.
These beliefs were cemented at our onset, through the hard work and determination of a group of parents who created community opportunities for their children in 1972.
