SUMMARY:12th Annual Martin Luther King Jr Lecture
DESCRIPTION:SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE\, DIVISION OF CAMPUS LIFE & INCLUSION PRESENT: \nHonoring the history of inclusion and diversity at Springfield College \nMonday\, March 3\, 2025 at 4 p.m. \nCleveland E. and Phyllis B. Dodge Room (C-F)\, Flynn Campus Union \nJune 14\, 1964\, was one of the greatest days in Springfield College history. \n  \nThat was the day when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the College’s commencement address. Taking place at the height of his fame and the height of the Civil Rights Movement\, it also happened in a remarkable context. That included both pressure from the FBI on the College to cancel the speech\, and King’s arrest and imprisonment three days before he was scheduled to appear. \n  \n2025 marks the 61st anniversary of these events. March 3 will mark the 12th annual MLK Lecture. \n  \nThis year’s event is not really a lecture at all. It is a thought-provoking conversation rooted in King’s own political and prophetic thought and advocacy in both historical and contemporary contexts. The discussion will assist us in understanding how racial\, ethnic\, gender\, and/or class issues have influenced the current political landscape in the United States. \n  \nOur President & CEO\, Shannon M. Rudder\, MBA\, joins other esteemed panelists: State Sen. Adam Gomez and Mount Holyoke College President Danielle R. Holley. Moderating the talk will be Terry Powe ’96\, Board of Trustees member and co-chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee. JOIN THE CONVERSATION

SUMMARY:Unauthorized Practice of Immigration Law (UPIL) Training
DESCRIPTION:Senator Jo Comerford and I are delighted to partner with the office of Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell and invite you to attend this important free training by the Attorney General’s office (AGO) on Thursday\, February 6th from 6-7pm. \n\nYou can register for the meeting here: https://us06web.zoom.us/…/register/Nc0TkUzpRluaIeJaqdlqsA. Translation services are available for Spanish\, Haitian Creole\, and Mandarin.\n\n\nThe Unauthorized Practice of Immigration Law (UPIL) is a widespread problem in which dishonest individuals falsely disguise themselves as licensed attorneys and charge immigrants hundreds and thousands of dollars for immigration services\, forms\, or unlicensed legal advice. In order to prevent UPIL\, the AGO created an educational training that covers proper legal representation for immigrants\, the difference between legal advice from an immigration attorney vs unlicensed legal advice\, immigration attorney scams and how to detect them\, what to do if you become a victim of an immigration lawyer scam\, and resources for legal help. It’s hoped that this training can help immigrants and their families avoid becoming a victim of UPIL.\n\n\nAttorney General Andrea Joy Campbelll’s Office is an advocate and resource for the people of Massachusetts in many ways\, including protecting consumers\, combating fraud and corruption\, investigating and prosecuting crime\, and protecting the environment\, workers\, and civil rights. We’re so grateful to her and her office for making this information widely available to protect our immigrant neighbors and for her partnership.\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please email: mindy.domb@mahouse.gov\n\n
